I was very disappointed in this book especially as I was really looking forward to reading it after listening to him being interviewed on TV. In actual fact I only read about 1/2 of it and threw in the towel. It was boring to the point I found I was skipping huge portions of it.I was very disappointed in this book especially as I was really looking forward to reading it after listening to him being interviewed on TV. A very educational book which is written in laymen's terms. It answered many questions I had regarding space travel and what it would be like to spend 5 months in a cramped space station. Very well written and would highly recommend this read.

One of the best novels I've read in a long time. A historical fiction based on the lives of 2 orphaned London flower sellers in the late 1800's. A fast moving story which is full of twists and turns and a story you will be sorry to see end. It gives you a good insight into the lives of these poor children of that era.One of the best novels I've read in a long time. I enjoyed this fact finding novel that laid out the history of the Rizzuto crime family. It was well researched and gave you an insight into the workings of the mafia and just how much power they had in eastern Canada and in particular how they infiltrated local government in Montreal.

What a fantastic read. I just cldn't put this book down. Although based on the true lives of Marshall Field and his long time mistress Delia, it has been pulled together with a fictitious story line and secondary characters. A lot of research has obviously gone into the writing of this novel which makes for a very interesting read. I wld highly recommended this book to anyone who enjoy novels set in the "Gilded Age".What a fantastic read. I just cldn't put this book down. I also felt the book was better than the TV series. It gave you a good insight into life in the East End of London during the early 50ties. Life was hard and poverty rampant. Makes one realize just how lucky we are in this day and age and the things we simply take for granted.

What a lovely but tragic story based on 14 Irish immigrants, all from the same village, who were immigrating to America from Ireland with great hopes and dreams. Fact mingled with fiction made for a very enjoyable read.

I found this book very educational. Learnt a lot about this period that I wasn't aware of. Was glad that these collection of stories were told as many of these war brides are now in their late 80ties, early 90ties & their stories could have been lost for ever. What a wonderful read. First Toibin novel I've read and I plan to pick up a couple more of his books.
Loved the characters and it moved along very smoothly but with a nice little twist to the ending.
Highly recommend it.

This is the first novel I've read by Dilly Court. I had great expectations simply because of the title. Unfortunately although it was well researched for the period, I found it very predictable. I thought it was more geared towards young adults. Doubt if I wld select another Court's books to read. This is the first novel I've read by Dilly Court. Dr. Sarah came across as having a huge ego. Believe me I cld relate to her fears and frustrations dealing with cancer but I felt as if she was constantly being a bit over dramatic. Was quite enjoying this story until I reached about half way thru the book when I started to lose interest. At this stage, I got to the point where I had a job to press on and finish the book. I found a lot of the characters actually annoyed me and I just cldn't keep track of them all..
