Legacy of Cherry Creek: Growing Up Black in Denver’s Transforming Neighborhood

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Offsite Location: Embassy Suites DTC

Description

The Cherry Creek area has evolved from one of Denver’s earliest Black neighborhoods into the upscale business and entertainment district of today. This evolution is beautifully told through the legacy of Nancelia Jackson, a lifelong resident of 98 years who recently passed away at her beloved home on Garfield Street. Nancelia Jackson and other contributors will be honored through storytelling, offering us a glimpse into the neighborhood's rich history and what lies ahead.

Join us for a panel discussion featuring individuals who have played pivotal roles in shaping Denver's future. Panelists will include Nancelia's son, former Denver County Judge Gary Jackson, Gary's uncle, Warren Scott, a retired U.S. Post Office Manager, Trudi Morrison, retired lawyer, former Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. Senate and Cleo Parker Robinson, founder and artistic director of Denver-based Cleo Parker Robinson Dance. Moderated by Chandra Whitfield, host and producer of “Colorado Matters” on Colorado Public Radio. Learn more about these distinguished panelists before you attend.

A Q&A will follow the panel discussion. Refreshments will be provided.
