Remember how exciting field trips used to be? We’re bringing that spirit back! Join us for a new series of community field trips exploring the places where civic life happens, alongside fellow curious neighbors.

On this trip to the Colorado State Capitol, you’ll observe House and Senate floor proceedings, attend committee meetings and have opportunities to interact with state legislators. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how state government works, no textbook required. Transportation and lunch are provided. We’ll depart and return together from Koelbel Library.

What to Expect

  • A mix of guided activities and observation time
  • Opportunities to listen in on real legislative work and ask questions
  • Light walking and standing throughout the day
  • A supportive, inclusive environment; no civic background required

Why We’re Going

This day is designed for Arapahoe Libraries patrons who are curious about how state government works and how everyday people can take part in it. Together, we’ll step inside the Colorado State Capitol to observe the legislature in action, meet elected officials, and build confidence as informed, engaged participants in our democracy. No prior experience with government is required, just curiosity and comfortable shoes.

What You’ll Gain

By the end of the day, participants will:

  • Better understand how laws are made in Colorado
  • See the Colorado General Assembly in action
  • Practice talking with legislators and public officials
  • Explore how to advocate for issues that matter to you
