Elizabeth Is Missing is a riveting and creative read that probably appeals to me more at my age of 70 than it might have at 35 or 40. As I age I live in fear of either myself or my husband contracting this disease that is so excellently…

As Maud’s Alzeimer’s progresses the book becomes more disjointed and confusing. The mystery of her sister’s disappearance isn’t really solved because I’m guessing that she won’t be able to understand what happened and make any sense of it.…

Oh, how I loved this book. Maud has Alzheimer's. She remembers very little, and leaves herself notes everywhere. When she goes back to the notes she has no idea what they mean. Most days she doesn't recognize her daughter, every day she…

I suspect that those who reviewed this book negatively are either young or in denial. This is very close to how the world really feels with dementia. It's a marvelous book. And it shows that if the person with dementia is not afraid,…

When your librarian tells you to read something you should read it. Such a great story. I couldn't put it down. Maud is frustrating but you cannot help but love her.

This is an excellent, excellent book. It is really three tales in one - two mysteries and the story of Maud and her increasing disability. First, there is the mystery of the title - what happened to her friend Elizabeth? This mystery…

This story contains not one, but two mysteries -- decades apart. We are inside the mind of Maud who is wondering what has happened to her dear friend Elizabeth. Her mind also vividly remembers the events from 1946 when her sister Sukey…

Couldn't put this one down. It's written from the point of view of a woman who is suffering from dementia, who, somehow, can still pull threads together.

This book has an intriguing premise. Maud, although suffering from dementia, uses her long term memory to solve a mystery from the past. One suspects that the author is basing the character of Maud on her own grandmother. However, the…

I'm ambivalent about this. It had its moments but they were few and far between. Muddled like the poor woman with the dementia.

Way too long, extremely tedious, disappointed in the ending.

A story told from the perspective of the muddled mind of an older woman with dementia. A family mystery is slowly revealed by weaving around large holes in her memory. Maud's character is written with compassion and warmth. It will appeal…

I've never read anything like this. It's like an experience in someone else's mind. The repetition is part of the understanding and frustration. Read it for the creative approach, and for the writer's grip on writing. The outcome is not…

Yes she will be a good writer but the thriller part fall flat. Too complicated and even at the end I was not even sure who had done it! But Maud reflections are a vivid image of the evolution of dementia.

The author's insight into what someone with dementia is thinking has helped me with a new appreciation for my mother's struggle. with memory loss. Highly recommended!

Mystery, about a woman who suffers from memory loss and the mystery of the disappearance of her sister when she was a child. Very effective use of words to characterize a person suffering from memory loss by using fragmentary memories.

For a first time author, Emma Healey absolutely nails this book--it's just wonderful. Eighty-two year old Maud, suffers from Alzheimer's disease. She has trouble coping with day-to-day life, but what's most puzzling is what happened to…

A difficult story to read for anyone who has been a caregiver for a loved one with dementia.. the confusion and poor judgement are well depicted in the story. On the other hand is this the best vehicle to tell an interesting story about a…

To think that this is Emma Healey's first book is astounding. The narrator is Maud, an 82 year old woman with dementia who believes her friend Elizabeth is missing. As the story unfolds the reader takes up residence in Maud's failing mind…

What a sad little book! Perhaps that was because - disturbingly - I quite often found myself identifying with the main character, Maud, who is gradually losing her marbles ... :) Well written, good characterisation of Maud in particular.

I was completely immersed in this story of a woman suffering the increased forgetfulness of dementia and her memories of the past. Well written.
