OK 2017 film centered on Winston Churchill becoming Prime Minister and his strong handling of Hitler.
For some reason, the film didn't really engage me even though this part of WWII history is quite intriguing.

A O Scott's Times review is helpful in my opinion, a big picture view. Someone else said 'presented in all caps' or something to that effect, seems right to me as well.
Lauded for backbone and high moral purpose, but lots of room for…

Films of this type are few and far between these days: those that are unabashedly admiring of a great man. It is currently fashionable to focus on the flaws of our heroes and to tear them down in our minds and in our eyes. Churchill was…

Although Gary Oldman has delivered a performance worthy of an Oscar, some part of the plot seems ill-contrived to make Churchill greater than the real one. For example, he talks with ordinary citizens in the subway train and remembers all…

Joe Wright’s impressive piece of historical revisionism, covering one crucial month in the life of Winston Churchill, was met with criticism upon its release by those who felt the Prime Minister’s role in mobilizing Britain was exaggerated…
Absolutely riveting. Best movie I have seen in a long time. Oldman is bar none the best character actor in Hollywood. An important story told really well about the most stellar hero of the 20th C.

This movie could have been so boring; great acting and masterful camera work made it a masterpiece.
The way much of it focuses on the young typist was an ingenious idea.
After two hours I was worried it was going to drag out for at lest…

Gary Oldman deservedly won the Oscar for his work in what's also one of the best pictures made of 2018. Fascinating and educational look into Winston Churchill's beginnings with WWII.

The middle (ominous map of enemy occupancy) & end (Churchill's muse to historical fame - the people) were most interesting for me. Enjoyed the Bonus material. Need a way to portray historical events in a more engaging & entertaining way…

I loved this movie! Unbelievable how Gary Oldman seemed to actually become Winston Churchill. Stellar performance! A trusted source who actually knew Churchill and everything surrounding him says that this movie is marvelously accurate. …

Gary Oldman is magnificent as Winston Churchill. He completely disappears into the part and if I didn't already know it was Gary Oldman, I'd never be able to guess. The movie is not a paint-by-numbers biopic, plodding dutifully through…

Wonderfully rousing speeches especially in the subway Underground and outer Cabinet gathering scenes.
Gary Oldman: an example of a rare character actor who is also an A-list star.

IF this movie had been made in, say, 1944, they would have called it "Propaganda." But, it was made in the 2nd decade of the 21st century, so instead, we prefer to call it "revisionist history." (More on this in a moment), but I prefer to…
