Jeremy Brett is the iconic Sherlock Holmes. He inhabits the personality of the character perfectly. I read all of Doyle's Holmes stories and can't imagine anyone else playing the part. These BBC productions are excellent! I highly recommend them.

Jeremy Brett plays a very, very strange, but extremely good-looking Holmes. (And David Burke looks always like an idiot, who has no clue, and would lay on a puddle on the street so Holmes won't get his shoes wet!) Since I only read A Study in Scarlet, which shows a very young Holmes, I am not sure if Brett incarnates Conan Doyle's ideal. Nevertheless, very entertaining. And make sure to watch the ending credits and the Bonus, that have gorgeous original prints from the stories!

Holmes' arrogance is carried across more than in some others, but not as much of the reason for it. The discarded detail from the stories renders this series kind of flat.
