Headed by President Josiah Bartlet, demonstrates that office politics are the same everywhere; things just have greater repercussions when your office happens to be the White House. Stories surround the President; his deputy communications director Sam Seaborn; his beleaguered press secretary, C.J. Cregg; the chief of staff, recovering boozehound Leo McGarry, who sacrifices his marriage to his career. Among the global crises Bartlet must finesse are a nuclear showdown between India and Pakistan, an American plane shot down by terrorists, and another downed U.S. plane in Iraq.

I love the ensemble cast in this series, not least because the writing really lets them shine. If you're in the mood to escape real life politics, this series is a clever (and often funny!) break from reality.

One of the best TV series ever made - serious and sometimes funny, fast-moving and a great education about what life is like in the West Wing. We're thoroughly enjoying watching the whole series over again.
First 3 disks have about 8 episodes each; only "bonus features" on the last disk of the season.

I found this series incredibly and depressingly propagandistic as possible: political theater of the absurd, instead of observing the obvious patterns, e.g., Clinton voted in, behaves extremely rightwing, appoints people from Reagan and Bush administrations, but does get NAFTA and GATT through, ending up with a majority republican congress, which makes the RMA, GLB Act and Commodity Futures Modernization Act a breeze to put through congress.
Obama comes in, appoints extreme neocon types from Reagan, both Bush administrations, and Bush/Clinton types, ends up with a republican majority congress, which will help him pass his Trans-Pacific Partnership, the endgame of FTAs. Clinton raised $100 million for his presidential library - - one year out of the White House, the Clintons are officially worth: $100 million. Obama has raised, to date, $500 million for his presidential library - - now guess how much he will be officially worth one year after he exits the White House?

One of the best series ever. The writing, the characters, the subject matter. Informative, clever, funny. I definitely want Martin Sheen to be our president.

Started watching this show on Netflix and was dismayed when it was removed. So glad that the library has it available, as it's television writing at its finest.

Some of the best writing ever on television. It's interesting to see how so many seasons still have waiting lists.

One of the smartest, most clever shows ever on television. Surprisingly light and funny. Highly recommended.
