Based on the true story of The Bell Witch of Tennesee. In 1818, slight, unexplained noises were heard. As the spirit grew, it singled out the father, John, and his daughter, Betsy. The family tried to search for the cause of the spirit in the hope of finding a way to defeat it. The spirit developed voices and began speaking to the family, but refused to say why it was there. Finally it pronounced a death sentence on John and within a year, he was dead. It would not be until years later that it was discovered what happened on the terrible night the spirit was born and find out the horrific truth about its nature and origin.

Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek, two well known and excellent actors! Having said this, this movie stinks! I am appalled that they would agree to be in such a production! BLAH! NOT scary at all. The trailer was good and the imagery was "good" in a few scenes, ie-the lighting, etc...but my goodness, this movie was very dissappointing!

Very terrible! Not even a little bit scary everything was predictable and the acting was the absolute worst! The whole plot seemed interesting when read the description but when watched was incredibly stupid. So disappointed in the movie.

Terrible movie. I'm very disappointed.. The book was amazing. They could of done a lot with the entity but instead made it a very flat, very predictable, boring character.

Handsomely produced, convincing story of a 19th-century American haunting with a satisfying twist at the end.
