I really enjoyed the unexpected characters in this book! Also: I loved that it took place in southern Missouri.

This was a very disturbing, unsettling thriller. I needed a shower then some fresh air after I finished it. Gothic, edgy, brutal - it wasn't a pretty experience, but very well written and intelligent. If sex and drugs - in all of their possible ugliness - bother you, stay away. I will be reading her next one, but not for awhile.

I enjoyed this novel very much! I love Flynn's style of writing that keeps you in suspense and on your toes the entire time! The author's style of writing makes you think you how everything will end, but there are surprising twists!

I wasn't a huge fan of this. Gone Girl was way better. The writing and subject matter was quite dark.

I was enraptured from the beginning, in a way I wasn’t with Gone Girl or many other books nowadays. The characters are brilliantly written and credible. Best leisure book I’ve read in a while!

She creates impossible characters, and it really shows in the movie. I read this thinking, "how does such a malfunctioning character have such successful status in her life?" and it's never explained. The younger girl in this story is hard to believe, because of the same reason, and in the end reveals a complicated plot that could not be thought of by someone with such issues. Once again, she underestimates the power of the FBI and thinks that they have no clue about anything ever. Horribly misinformed.

“People got such a charge from seeing their names in print. Proof of existence. I could picture a squabble of ghosts ripping through piles of newspapers. Pointing at a name on the page. See, there I am. I told you I lived. I told you I was.”

“I'm here, I said, and it felt shockingly comforting, those words. When I'm panicked, I say them aloud to myself. I'm here. I don't usually feel that I am. I feel like a warm gust of wind could exhale my way and I'd be disappeared forever, not even a sliver of fingernail left behind. On some days, I find this thought calming; on others it chills me.”
