Will Hayes is a 30-something Manhattan dad who is in the midst of a divorce. His 10 year old daughter, Maya, starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love. Will's story begins years earlier when, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician, he moves to New York in order to work on the Clinton campaign. Will attempts a "PG" version of his romantic relationships with three very different women for his daughter and changes the names of the women so Maya has to guess who he finally married. Maya puts together the pieces of her dad's romantic puzzle and begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. As Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it's definitely never too late to go back, and just maybe, find a happy ending.

A bit quikyk in style and the little girl did get on my nerves, but I did enjoy this movie. Ryan R. comes across so natural in this love story.

this film is fun to watch
basically the dad is telling his daughter, about three different girls that he meets
trying to figure out who the mom is

its an entertaining movie, even to the younger viewer
cause you understand about how this guy finds the correct girl who is the daughters mom

I saw the movie
and I had liked it I thought it I had laughed through the movie
but this is not for children to watch

It walks a dangerous line with the whole “telling a story to my daughter” setup, but manages to avoid being excessively sappy. It’s not as deep as it probably wants to be but is still a compelling story with an above average script.

A lively and fun story about loves lost and won.

Nothing special, but a good date night movie. Fairly obviously the inspiration for "How I Met Your Mother."

An adorable, well acted romance film. Ryan Reynolds is good in anything.

Despite occasional witty dialogue, this cinematic soap opera can't be forgiven for its obscene exploitation of a child as a plot device.

Good - Definitely, Maybe (2008) *** 112 min. starring Ryan Reynolds, Isla Fisher (“Wedding Crashers” “The Lookout”), Abigail Breslin (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Kevin Kline and Rachel Weisz – Coined as a romantic comedy; there’s not that much comedy here. But there is a lot of relationship building and destroying going on. A little girl’s parents are getting divorced and she asks her father to explain how he met her mother. The film in itself is enjoyable because you’re introduced to interesting characters and the lead (Ryan Reynolds) does elicit some degree of pathos. Unfortunately, the concept is absurd. Who in their right minds would tell a 9 or 10 year old girl all of one’s sexual and alcoholic indiscretions? Give me a break. First, she shouldn’t understand what you’re talking about and how is all the sordid details supposed to answer her question anyway? (oh yes, it had to fill the 2 hour length of the film). Even the conclusion is ridiculous – no kid would want this (I hope I haven’t spoiled the ending?). The film’s shining star is Isla Fisher, who delivers one quick line after another and is consistent throughout.
