There has been a murder at Styles Court. Detective Poirot comes out of retirement to solve who would want the rich heiress Inglethorp dead, and would have the impudence to poison her. The jagged plot turns keep Poirot - and the reader - guessing as suspicion shifts from one peculiar character to the next. In Agatha Christie's first published work, the reader meets Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, destined to become the central detective of her mystery novels.

Penelope Delaporta may be a good narrator, sometimes, but this is not that time.
First of all, this is a story told by Captain Hastings. Why is a woman doing this, at all? Totally wrong.
But, if she weren't such a slow and draggy reader, I could have tolerated it. Without an adjustment to the speed, I couldn't stay awake for the first hour of the book, let alone the whole thing.
Waste of time. Go check out Hugh Fraser's version, with the yellow cover.

A classic whodunit that will keep you guessing all the way along. The first in the Poirot series. Agatha Christie sure wrote some of the greatest murder mysteries, thankfully without gore or horror.
