The Venetian Betrayal is similar in style to the novels of James Rollins to the point that Berry even mentions Rollins’ Sigma Force. It’s a good solid techno-thriller with an evil central Asian despot as the enemy, crosses, and double-crosses. The novel was exciting enough. I found the use of CE and BCE instead of AD and BC annoying due to Berry’s inconsistency. I respect an author’s right to use these politically correct designations but not while he’s using the Christian church and the alleged body of St. Mark while referring to centuries “before Christ.” I listened to the CD version and the Danish accent wasn’t bad although the other accents blended together to sound rather non-descript Russian. This was my first exposure to this series and I plan to read more but it’s not on top of my priority list.
