Imagine it were possible to bring the characters from a book to life. Not like when you listen to an audiobook with such enchantment that the characters seem to jump off the pages and into your bedroom...but for real. Imagine they could actually climb out of the pages and into our world. Then imagine if those characters brought their world into ours. This is the story of young Meggie, who lives a quiet life alone with her father Mo, a bookbinder, until one cruel night when Mo reads aloud from Inkheart, and an evil ruler named Capricorn escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is smack in the middle of the kind of adventure she has only read about in books. Somehow, Meggie and Mo must learn to harness the magic that conjured up this nightmare. Somehow they must change the course of the story that has changed their lives forever. This is Inkheart, a timeless tale about books, about imagination, about life.

Opinion

From Library Staff

Read by the late Lynn Redgrave. You know her from "Gods and Monsters," "The Jane Austen Book Club" and "Centennial."

Wonderful book that answers the time-honored book lover's question, what if all my favorite book characters came to life?

This has long been one of my favorite books. It was among the first that inspired me to be a writer. I read it first around fifth grade, and it was perfect.

this book was the best book honestly, I have ever read. It was really sort of weird, because I didn't know that I liked it until I was finished, and had thought about it a bit. Amazing!!!!!!!! you gotta read it!

Fun and satisfying. I enjoyed the story and the characters alike, both fulfilling their promises and destinies in the unique, magical world created by Cornelia Funke.

I am on disc 11 of 14 of Inkheart, and I just don't care anymore. It's an entertaining enough idea/story, but it's just not sucking me in. It's really dragging and I was ready for a conclusion about 3 discs ago!

Really enjoyable book! The narrator does an awesome job making you feel like you are apart of the book!

I REALLY enjoyed this book on cd. Lynn Redgrave was actually a pretty good narrator for this book. The story line is great, the characters interesting, and the words kept drawing me back. Moved on to Inkspell immediately!

Lynn Redgrave is not bad at all as narrator here. The story is also not bad (not a great endorsement, I know, but that's the best I can say) ... perhaps something in Funke's prose is lost in translation.
