Reading this book is a mind-altering experience; its words and images slowly permeate your whole being - not just mind, but soul and even body. You slowly sink into it as though relaxing into a thick down mattress, cosy and dreamy..... Even remembering reading it is blissful. You will experience this book with a soft smile.

An amazing collection of tales from an odd area- outer suburbia. It's listed as YA, but really, anyone can enjoy these stories.

"A lot of different words could be used to describe this book: somber, mysteriously peculiar, beautiful, magical, weird, wonderful. Amazing, offbeat illustrations bring these 15 stories to life, taking ordinary settings in the 'burbs and mixing fantasy and enchantment into them. Dreamers, artists, and others who like to use their imaginations will love the strange (and yet oddly familiar) worlds that Australian author and artist Shaun Tan creates in Tales from Outer Suburbia." This is an odd little book. The illustrations remind me of some of Jon Scieszka's artwork and those compliment the odd little stories really well. We have a tale about a water buffalo who gives directions, a diver who appears to a mean old neighbourhood lady known only as Mrs. Bad News, brothers exploring whether or not the world keeps going where their maps ends, and other odd little adventures that any neighbourhood (suburban or not) probably has. It didn't quite resonate with me the way I was expecting it to but the artwork - and a tale told through scraps of paper - is worth a peek.

I read this book not expecting to get much out of it. I was wrong this is one of the best books i've read in a long time.
I would recomend this book to any one wanting to read a short but great book.

Stories that make put you into thoughts of wonder. Quirky - my love also picked it up and enjoyed it. Not an easy read for children but maybe teens
