In an ultra-conservative America of the not-too distant future when America has become a police state, the annual marathon is the ultimate sports competition. One hundred boys are selected each year to enter a grueling 450-mile marathon walk. The game is simple: maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings, and you're out; permanently. The winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life; but a single misstep could be the last.....

An excellent Stephen King book written under the darker writing persona of Richard Bachman. King's" the Long Walk" is the beginning of the many very popular YA books that came out later with a similar theme.

Certainly one of the saddest Stephen King stories I have ever read. Leaves a lot of questions unanswered. The antagonist is the walk itself. The narrator did an outstanding job with the various characters in the story.

That's right, Stephen King did it first!

They did make a movie about this book; it was called "The Hunger Games"!

I read this book when I was in my early teens, and several times since. I have to say, this is one of my favourite Stephen King books. I always wished that they had gone through with making it into a movie!
