Another excellent film from Europe, free from the artifice of American film-making.

The other viewers' comments are sufficient, and I would only add that it is a real testimony to the director's skill that we care about Lars and Jimmy to any extent, given the awful nature of their white supremacy. We're talking about beatings and brick throwing, One young gay man gets beaten in a park by the group.

If you think this has the feeling of a prison film, it's because in the US a lot of white supremacy and skinhead agitation takes place among the prison population.
This also explains the disconnect between the organization hating gays in general, but in the specific cases of its own members it's more likely to be tolerant than is depicted here.

This is a powerful movie. I was deeply touched by the main characters and the different struggles that each must confront. This is a very masculine story about the ways men tend to try to resolve emotional issues, especially within group dynamics.

This is a hardcore film...not in terms of sex (what there is muted and infrequent) but in terms of an intense relationship by mature men in impossible circumstances. This is a European (Danish) ‘Brokeback’ with no Hollywood characters and no Hollywood ending. Gripping!

Very sophisticated, complex tragedy about two gay lovers who belong to a neo-Nazi hate group.

Brotherhood is a dark Danish story of a Nazi cult. New boy Lars has quit the army because of gay allegations. How will his sexuality fare in the Brotherhood? It's worthwhile watching.
