The Wind River Reservation is preparing for the annual Sun Dance ceremony when tribe member Ned Windsong is murdered. The only witness to the crime is Marcy Morrison, a white woman claiming to be Ned's fiancee. Marcy identifies two suspects, but Ned's family is convinced Marcy is spinning a web of lies. Father John agrees with Ned's family, which does not sit well with Vicky when she's assigned to defend the witness.

I enjoyed reading this book, it was a real page turner. A great, light mystery if you're looking for one.

Ned Windsong returns from Jackson Hole, wanting to set his life straight and dance the Sun Dance. Fr. John, who's known him since childhood, thinks Ned's troubled, but Ned doesn't seem to want to talk. Two women, one Arapaho, one white, learn that Ned's been seeing both. Ned's shot, with the white woman the only witness, making the case harder to solve. Eventually, though, both Vicky & John realize that a "big boss" must have been involved in a theft ring. Not the best in the series, but all are atmospheric and good reading.
