Wow. The Description above does not do this book justice. Read it and understand how apocalyptic thinking - the bedrock of fundamentalism in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam - legitimizes all sorts of reprehensible behavior in all parts of the world.

Insightful and informative. The book explores the history of the city and its connections to world history, as well as its religious and cultural importance. I picked up a good deal of information I didn't know about.

Discusses the history of the city, as well as the religious fervor and conflicts it has inspired.
