"Out of the shadows of the first millennium come those who will define the next. Circa A.D. 980, an accomplished Viking named Sven returns to his family estates in Orkney. Used to lush Mediterranean palaces, exotic women and epic combat, Sven only intends to claim his inheritance before excaping this cold backwater forever. But his ruthless uncle Gorm has stolen Sven's brithright. Viewed as both an outsider and a traitor, Sven embarks on a one-man war against his uncle's organization, only to find himself drawn back into a past he'd tried so hard to leave behind" -- p. A great atypical viking tale. Sven has traveled the world and thinks hes become too good for his homeland, but he still has a lot too learn about what it means to be a man, a warrior, and a Norseman.

Just finished Book One of the Northlanders series and noticed that the OPL has Book Three and Four - but what happened to Book Two?

I picked this up because, hey, Vikings, should be cool. In fact, it's a dull mash-up of boring violence, rambling pointless cynical-speak and bed-hopping. You can't even tell they're Vikings because the main character talks like a cranky arts student and nobody else seems to think or act much like a Viking, or even much like any person of the time. The writer tries to make it all tough-guy and bad@s$ with gratuitous f-bombs and sex scenes, but it fails to impress. The setting doesn't come through at all--nobody seems to think or act much like a Viking, they're just playing dress-up.
Art: 3/5 (nice chapter title-pages, everything else is kinda blah)
Story:1/5 (very thin and uninteresting)
Enjoyment: hey, I couldn't even finish it and it's just a skinny little volume.
