Jack and Annie embark on another quest into the "wild, wild west", where they must overcome the various hurdles thrown at them. In a supposed "ghost" town, they meet Slim and find out why the population is so low there. I really enjoyed reading about the colt and "horse-back" riding that happened towards the end. The language is very descriptive but simple enough to comprehend, for young readers. I definitely recommend this to beginning children or parents seeking books for them.

These are so fun to read!

My almost 5-year-old and I have just discovered the Magic Tree House series. These are the first "chapter books" we've read together. I personally enjoyed this story more than most of the other half dozen we've read so far. There are interesting animal and human subplots (both of which are about positive connection), and the story is neither predictable nor pedantic. I found myself reading ahead after we'd done our usual bedtime reading - something I don't typically feel compelled to do with children's books. For those reading to young children, be warned that there IS a (helpful) ghost in this story.
