While I enjoyed the first three books well enough (though they had a few things I would nit pick about), this book was simply not up to par with the previous ones. The timeline isn't apparent in how it lines up with the previous ones without a great deal of extrapolation, the two main characters also seem lackluster and a weak shadow of the original pair rather than breaking out into their own. Their personal logic, plot and situations seem more contrived than natural and in many instances directionless. I'll give the next in the series a try in hopes it'll bring it back around.

In my opinion, this book was not up to the other books in this nine kingdon series. ending left much to be desired but perhaps it is to leave open for the next books. I am not ready to give up on the seriies yet.

It's my personal opinion that every book in a trilogy will have a good ending, but still leave a little unresolved for the next book. This book just ends with no resolution at all. I loved her previous Nine Kingdoms trilogy and read them one after the after. However, I didn't realize this book was also the first in a new series. Now I will have to possibly wait years for the ending to find resolution. My recommendation is to read the first trilogy all at once and then wait till this entire series comes out to begin this book.
