From Library Staff

Alternate realms of thinking about the mundane nature of life abound in Conor Oberst's 2011 release. The album marks a break from mainstream life with some tongue in cheek lyrical commentary throughout.

I personally feel that the People's Key is underrated and the most cohesive Bright Eyes record since Lifted. Conor Oberst's songwriting is mired in spirituality on this one, and it makes for a fascinating listen. Buddhism, Christianity, Paganism, Rastafarianism, and more all play a part, and the spiritual elements are addressed from a position of both skeptic ("Shell Games") and seeker ("Beginner's Mind"). It also features some of the catchiest tunes in the whole Bright Eyes catalog.
