Glory, now Tommy's widow, is a tough navy nurse still grieving her loss while trying to save lives. Marsh, a surface ship officer, finds himself in the thick of terrifying sea combat from Guadalcanal through Midway to a climactic showdown at Leyte Gulf. Very realistic depiction of the hell that is war. Excellent writing throughout. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Deutermann's skill at observing naval protocol is superb. Such young men. My admiration for the heroism, courage and character of what was my father's generation knows no bounds. So , go aboard and don't forget to say "Aye, Aye, Sir"

Usual good stuff by Dueterman. Love the historical context and his detailed descriptions of battle scenes. Hard to beat this guy if you like war novels.

Great adventure, a real page turner. Can't wait to read other offerings from this author.

You often read reviews that the book was spellbinding, couldn't put it down, kept you on the edge of your seat. This one actually was. It was one of the best war stories I have ever read. The quality of the writing was first class, the battle scenes were overwhelming, and the plot had just enough twists to keep you off balance. A good read from first page to last.
