The year is 1348. Europe has fallen under the shadow of the Black death. As the plague decimates all in its path, fear and superstition are rife. There are rumors of a village, hidden in marshland that the plague cannot reach. There is even talk of a necromancer who leads the village and is able to bring the dead back to life. Ulric, a fearsome knight, is charged by the church to investigate these rumors.

Dark tale wrapped around the mysticism of pagans & the power of the Catholic church while the plague ravages England. Eddie Redmayne was fantastic as always, but I was very depressed by the end of the movie.

The DVD box says it is "a smart, scary occult thriller . . . darkly satisfying." I thought it was quite grim, then became rather creepy. Mixing a medieval setting with the black death /plague and ending with a group of crazies who do not believe in God during a very religious era. If you like dark and creepy you may enjoy it. Otherwise, keep browsing the DVD shelf, I'm sure something better is out there.

I love movies about medieval England. This was suitably gruesome and shows you how much religious belief played a part in people's lives back then.

As a fan of medieval and gladiator movies, I especially liked this one for its portrayal of "witches" in a realistic context: women with social power who presented an intolerable threat to male/Christian authority. The acting is good all across the board, the female characters are not all whimpering victims, and the story creates tension and excitement without huge ridiculous CG battles.

Entertaining, better than most of the reviews gave it credit for.

Looks like Sean Bean came straight from Lord of the Rings for this movie! Not a bad movie. The Monk character is very hard to hear, fight scenes are jumpy and non-stabilized. The ending is a little unfulfilled. Could have been done better but worth a watch.

Kind of a fun movie. Takes place in 1348 and in addition to the splatter-fest,t here is actually a pretty interesting story here! The man in the role of the monk is played by the same man who played "Jack" in "Pillars of the Earth". The acting is very good all the way around.

After seeing some previews of “Black Death”, I was expecting anything from fantasy/adventure to a bit of horror. Instead, I got an overdose of religion. Overall, the story had potential but its delivery was disappointing.
