Before the the world knew him as stormtrooper-gone-good FN-2187 (aka Finn), British actor John Boyega starred in this thrilling indie sci-fi film set in the gritty projects of South London. Writer/Director Joe Cornish directs with style and offers a story full of streetwise swagger and a surprising amount of heart. Pro Tip: If you're struggling with the accents, try watching with subtitles.

As someone has mentioned, this is a breakout work for the guy in "Star Wars," but my God it's a terrible movie. Like seriously bad. What are they saying, are they trying to be funny? It's such a boring movie to me. I'd waste my time elsewhere personally.

This movie provided the break out role for John Boyega of Star Wars fame. Attack the Block is violent and fun, while also having something important to say about how we underestimate young, poor, teenagers (but don't worry, that doesn't get in the way of the extra terrestrial carnage and chaos).
Possibly a bit violent, depending on your sensibilities.

You know what? It's actually a fun movie. It's stupid of course, but in a lot of ways that are awesome. There are many funny and clever little things that elevate it from being just dumb. I appreciated the comedy, though it is a different style of humor then American movies. A great movie to watch with friends, provided they are not overly cynical by nature. It reminded me a lot of that old early 80's movie "The Warriors" in terms of the style of how it was done. It's more about the style, comedy, and who the characters are then it is about story or plot. The alien effects are noticeably dated, but I didn't find it detracted that much. It seemed to somehow fit the style of the movie. It has a very old school aliens slasher film feel to it. I would describe it as a british action/comedy/slasher sci fi that works way better then it should.

I thought this movie was well done. I liked the young actors and thought they did a good job. Enjoyable

I ADORE this movie. But then, I'm a fan of British drama and comedy, which definitely has a different flare than American ones. I loved the pacing and the irreverence of the characters, that whole "unlikely allies" trope. It's not an amazing movie by any standards but it is wonderfully enjoyable to the right people.

Unlikable characters. A story that doesn't expand on the comment about the aliens theoretically being used to kill off the black people in England.(So, is that the black people overall? Or, the black people that are in the 'ghettos' of England? Also, why didn't anyone question the aliens that did come attack? Those meteors were pretty conspicuous!)

As an African-American, I am looking for characters that are strong and are bolstered by a strong story. This movie offers none of those.

We watched Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and found both VERY funny—and, yes, I know they are not deep, intellectual movies, but comedies! Yet, we were not able to watch 15 minutes of this movie. My goodness, what language were these kids speaking? Was it English?! I never had a problem understanding old British movies. It seems that now it is hip to speak with a very heavy Cockney accent. Hip as it might be, it doesn’t work for me. Pass on this one!

Decently entertaining flick but really not bringing anything extravagant to the party.

An intriguing British horror, applauded more for its success in face of a meager independent budget than for its actual advances in cinematic history. The story is an interesting narrative navigating the London projects as a gang of criminal youths, the woman they mugged, and a pot dealer fight off waves of alien creatures. These kids are unlikely heroes with the cruel game they play to survive, but you find yourself empathizing with these hoodlums in spite of yourself. Only in that area does ATTACK THE BLOCK deserve some recognition. Yes, it was a noble effort, but overall I wasn't blown too much away.

Ron: Even if it is an alien invasion, they're four foot high, blind and got kicked to death by a bunch of kids. We got nothing to worry about.

What happens when a bunch of nasty ape-dog things drop on some projects in London? The local hoodlums may just have to step up to the plate and learn how to be men. This movie balances humor with horror extremely well, mixing in a good dose of excitement and some genuine characters. Yes, youve got to deal with accents and slang. Deal. Its worth it.
