This album, J. Cole’s debut album, is a fine piece of work. J. Cole cleverly tells the story of his life to this point through catchy beats and witty lyrics in the 16 tracks. This album follows up J. Cole’s three prior successful mix tapes, and the rapper raises the bar with this album. It is clear that he put a lot of time into developing the theme and direction he wanted to achieve with this album. The cover art and disk reveal his well known love for the game of basketball as on the cover art he is in the locker room and on the disk there is a pattern of a basketball court. The name “Sideline Story” came from his days of struggling to make it into a successful musician. Various tracks on the album plunge into his influences, distractions, adversity, and success that he has gone through. Notable features on the album include Jay-Z, Drake and Missy Elliot. It is clear that with this album J. Cole has set a new standard in the world of hip hop that goes beyond the days of radio friendly songs, and into the world of deep and meaningful music. The up and coming artist has delivered a respectable album and he has shown various improvements from his earlier music
This is one smitten rapper on this release, esp on collab efforts with Trey Songz; Jay Z; and Drake!
