An enjoyable historical 'cosy'. It highlights that the lot of women, even those who lived privileged lives, was limited and very much determined by men.

Victoria Thompson's characters actually joke and tease each other -- how often do you find that in a mystery! The engaging characters are part of the charm of this series, which features fast-paced stories dealing with some of the big social issues of the turn of the Gaslight era.
