Galactus returns, and this time he wants Asgard! Why was Broxton, OK chosen as the site for Asgard? Of all the places in the world? A team of scientists ask themselves this and with the permission of Asgard begin investigating the ground beneath it, unearthing an artifact that somehow predates the Big Bang. And just as they try to wrap their brains around that, the Earth trembles. Darkness falls! Once again our world shivers in the unending night cast by the shadow of Galactus.

Having been a long time reader and a former collector of Marvel and DC Comics, I find that more recent works by either company generally tend to be disappointing no matter how much I try to be open minded.

This comic is no different with some rather gratuitous nudity in it, though tastefully handled, and a rather flat depiction of Thor, his family and friends in a story almost entirely set in Asgardian realms with brief glimpses of Earth.

Another disappointment is the rewriting(?) of "history" with Galactus and the Silver Surfer but Marvel can do as they wish as they often do without consideration of their fan base nor their own history.

Worse than the story is the physical drawings/depictions of each of the characters with perhaps only Sif earning the illustrator a passing mark.

My first Thor comic I've read, and it was pretty good I guess. Thor was his usual Thor self, Sif was featured as well as the Silver Surfer, and a bunch of other gods and folk like that. I got a kinda God of War vibe going on here with the huge throw down at the end of the comic too. I enjoyed it, the story was pretty good, the action decent, and all in all I had a nice time reading this. So looking back at this first Thor comic, I think I'll give it a 7/10.
