Two thumbs down. This was absolutely disgusting disappointing. The plot was very flat and one dimensional. A lot of the risks he took were pointless and didn’t add interest to the plot. There wasn’t enough focus on the crimes that he was supposed to be investigating. I wanted to see more of a development of the criminals or more of a struggle to find who did the crimes. Instead, they focus on these weird dynamics between him and some of the white women characters. For example, there was a scene where he kiss the forehead of a white girl who was a porn star/ prostitute; not only was that weird for a black man to do, it would be weird and inappropriate for any man to do considering the job he holds and that he doesn’t know her. It seemed to be about a black male detective who was always running around putting his career , health, and safety on the line to save some white woman he didn’t know or barely knew from some past assignment he did.

The second part was not as good as the firs but the acting is excellent.

A great dark detective series! Nothing is black and white in this show: many of the characters teeter between good and evil, which makes them real, human, and relatable. Must watch!

I must be on another planet from the rest of the contributors here. The series is appallingly sick and violent, acting may be good, but that just makes it worse. Skip it if you enjoy a good night sleep.

Great series. I thought Luther 1 had far more cohesion than the 2nd season. Missed Alice as she became the perfect counterpoint to Luther and the evolving of their relationship was a good part of Luther 1. Twin brothers in Luther 2 seemed a little too far out and the violence of their actions needed a base - where did it come from? Also in Luther 1 you saw the evolution of DS Ripley into a Luther supporter. In Luther 2 the new DS who's brought on board doesn't buy in and it feels like a detriment to the overall movement of the show. In the Wire In the Blood series for example, the team needs to establish and re-establish itself as characters change. Watch any cop drama and this happens. Four episodes (just 2 really) aren't enough to re-establish the new team. Look forward to Luther 3

This series is amazing! The characters and the acting is great. The story-line is one shock after another. Some of the eps in this series left me breathless.

After a hiatus DCI John Luther returns to work in the newly formed Serious and Serial Crime Unit headed by DSU Martin Schenk. Luther rescues DS Justin Ripley from uniform duty to work with him again. Luther 2 has two cases consisting of four episodes. The first case involves a serial killer set out to make a name for himself with plans to then disappear. The second case revolves around twin brothers playing out a deadly game where they kill people and destroy property. DCI Luther contacts Alice Morgan who is in custody and also provides means for her escape. Besides his two cases Luther is blackmailed by criminals as he tries to help an acquintance and her daughter. During Luther 2 DCI Luther becomes more daring as he continues to bend the law as well as put himself in grave danger.

Even better than the first series! While I do miss Alice I do like Jenny and the other new additions to case. Truly unsettling cases too!

John Luther is memorable and very compelling to watch. He carries his main role very well! I hope he gets an award for his role!
The carry-over from the First to the Second series lacked "the bridge", and had left too many question of what exactly happened to his ex-wife, and why the unit was disbanded with such negative fall-out, etc.
I found the show having too much violence. This was a disappointment. It is definitely a thriller. I won't be watching any more of it.
