Creativity is not a single gift possessed by the lucky few. It's a variety of distinct thought processes that we can all learn to use more effectively. Collapsing the layers separating the neuron from the finished symphony, Imagine reveals the deep inventiveness of the human mind, and its essential role in our increasingly complex world.

The author himself reads this audiobook, and the first three or four hours of it are, well, not too good: there is a lot of throat fry, but later it smooths out somewhat. The work itself is well structured, starting with the psychology of individuals and specific instances of creativity, and creativity over a career, then moves on to discuss creativity in businesses, and then in larger social settings like communities and institutional features of whole societies. Informative, helpful and encouraging for individuals, workers, and citizens.

I really liked this a lot. The stories about Bob Dylan, Pixar, Shakespeare and others were great. I felt like I got some valuable insight in how to focus and foster my own creativity and how we could foster more creativity in our society. Then I read that the publisher had pulled this book after it was revealed that the author fabricated quotes from Dylan and others and had plagiarized his own writing in the writing of this and his previous book. I've also read that Lehrer's take on science is cavalier and overly general. Now I'm not sure what to think about this book.

I loved his book "How We Decide" and loved this one too. Great research on creativity, how it works in our brains, and how it occurs within a group of people. There's also plenty of ideas to increase our own creativity - alone and in groups..
