Would have given this one 5 stars, but the ending was abrupt and without resolution and no hint of a follow-up. Otherwise it was an excellent read.

I can't return this item today as I have no transportation. I guess I pay the fine and return it when I can.

The plot doesn't sound too creative, but this is a fast-moving, action-packed suspense novel with plenty of surprises. It's written from a Christian perspective, so there's little to offend anyone. ✽✽✽ If you're a fan of Christian action-suspense fiction, this book is probably already on your must-read list. Here are a few things to consider: ✽✽✽ As many reviewers on Amazon and Goodreads have noted, this book leaves important plot elements hanging. Don't open the book unless you have ready access to the next two books in the series. Often, a series is a set of independent stories sharing a common theme, location, and characters. But sometimes, a series comes about when an author writes one story, but it's too big to fit in one volume, so it simply gets chopped into pieces; it feels to me like this is such a book. ✽✽✽ Cautious Christian readers should be aware that this book promotes the idea that if you follow your heart, everything will turn out fine, that if your hormones make you "fall in love" with someone you have no choice, and that if you are attracted to someone who does not share your faith, just pursue them and they will magically come around and adopt your faith and values. ✽✽✽ I was frustrated that the detectives failed to notice a huge clue: if there was someone in the back of the van, this makes the crimes the product of a conspiracy, not a single warped individual. This means different motivations, different dangers, different evidence to look for. I think the author completely missed the significance of this point. ✽✽✽ Technical trivia: I first learned about the book when a reader asked me about a neat gadget described in the book. The book describes a gadget which can read quickly read fingerprints: the EDAX Eagle II XPL MXRF. Here's my professional opinion: Yes, this is a new and exciting technique. Yes, it's perfect for getting fingerprints from a small but difficult object such as a knife. No, the machine isn't new...only the technique is new; in fact, the Eagle II is pretty much an antique, replaced long ago by newer machines. No, someone isn't going to "take it out of its box," because it's about the size of a kitchen dishwasher. And microwave. And toaster oven. So it'll come in many boxes, and lots of wiring and plumbing is needed before it can be used. And no, it has nothing to do with lasers. It uses X-rays. Where in tarnation did the verbiage about lasers come from? •¶§—✔♥✜✛✏☛☁✽

This was a great read. The action starts at the beginning and never stops until the end of the book! Lynette Eason did a good job of building up a character you care about and a story that keeps you turning the pages!
