I love this book, cant wait for the sequel. It has a strong female character that takes her life into her own hands, while still choosing between 2 hot guys!!!!

I picked this book up last minute on a whim. And it was completely worth it! It was amazing. It had humor that got me laughing from the first page. Kaya is a strong heroine and I absolutely adored her throughout the whole book. This is definitely a must read.

*Fangirl squeal*!!! Can I just say how much I LOVED THIS BOOK?!? There are so many reasons why I shouldn't automatically add this to my favourites list, but I just can't bring myself to care about things that usually turn me off. The story is set in a fantasy world very similar to Kristin Cashore's if any of you are familiar with her writing (another author I absolutely ADORE). Unlike Cashore's heroines, who are a bit more misunderstood, Kaya absolutely knows who she is and what she believes. Kaya totally kicks ass, and what I loved most about this book is that despite the love triangle (it wouldn't be teen fiction without a love triangle these days, would it? Here's hoping that trend burns itself out soon), Kaya's worth is not dependent at all on either man (boy?), and she is definitely not a damsel in distress needing a white knight to rescue her. For the full review, head to my book blog at OboeChica Books (so long and thanks for all the fish).

In a world ruled by Barrons, magically gifted fighters, and their soulbound Healers, Kaya grew up in a small unskilled village. The daughter of two Barrons-in-hiding, as Barrons are not meant to marry each other, Kaya knows nothing of the hierarchy of Barrons and Healers that keep the countryside safe from Graplars (large dragonlike creatures) until one attacks at the village fair, killing her best friend. By killing the beast, her father draws attention to the family and Kaya is forced to attend Shadow Academy to become a healer. But what Kaya is really determined to do is learn how to fight, so that no one will ever die because she was unprepared ever again. Protocol keeps Healers from learning to use a katana, but Kaya has never been one to follow protocol.

The story is pretty formulaic and the writing is pretty juvenile at times, but the plot is fast moving, and the characters are interesting.

I haven't read any other of Heather Brewer's books but hand them over if they were as amazing as Soulbound. This book is the first in the series and its a great start. I can't wait for the next book. If you like action, adventure, romance and medical tales this book is for you. If i had the time i think i could have finished this book in one sitting it was so good. If you've read EON, any of Richelle Mead's books or Graceling you will enjoy this book. It's sort of like a Mulanish tale with a Richelle Mead twist.

I loved this book and I can not wait for book 2 (Soulbroken) to come out . Kaya's story was one that kept me reading all day till I finished it and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good book.

This book was amazing! the beginning flowed a little weirdly, but the plot picked up pretty soon and I was very drawn in. Can't wait for the next book!
