Alice isn't having the best of days. What she doesn't know is that her day's about to get worse: the epic, grand-scale kind of worse that comes from the arrival of two angels who claim everything about her life is a lie.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: A portion of the book goes through Hell, with the expected sights and sounds.

Violence: There are scenes of battle in Hell and descriptions of injuries. Nothing too terrible or detailed.

I liked this. I was in a mood for something dealing in angels/demons, etc and this hit the spot.

I never really got into Alice. She seemed a little to quick to adapt to something that would be life-altering. She also never seemed to ask the questions that I would expect from someone thrust into her position. To be able to actually talk to an angel or demon would allow someone to access a wealth of knowledge: about Heaven and Hell, God an Lucifer, history, all that. She never even voiced a curiosity. Rather, she only cared how things affected her and what it was that she needed to do. And during the confrontation at the end she was purely insufferable.

The reason I liked this was Mallory and Vin. The flawed Earthbounds that were actually interesting characters. They carried this book as well as they could. I liked the aspects with the Descended's, the Earthbounds, and the Fallen. I just really wish there was a stronger main character to tie them all together.

I am divided about continuing the series. I want to know where this goes for Mallory and Vin. I want to know about Gwyn's progress. I want to know more about the Fallen, especially the 12. I just don't know if I can deal with more of Alice. Likely, I'll read the next one just as I did this one. Barely paying attention to Alice and getting what I need from the stronger characters.
