This is a remake of a classic story, but set in modern-day India. I find the film to be uneventful, and hence just an 'OK' watch. English is the spoken language of the film despite the location so no subtitle is required.

I like this movie for several reasons: (1) the setting is colorful and vibrant; (2) the plot is unpredictable but not unbelievable; and (3) the main characters are quite pretty and handsome.

Though it isn't an uplifting story, it hints at the inner world of Trishna, which is mysteriously fascinating and that's where the awe lies--to understand the psyche of the main character. This film is for those who appreciate the deeper layer of humanity.

This movie kept me on the edge of my seat. It was sad, romantic, profound, and violent. It is not for children. The message and story behind it make up for the lack of great acting. I enjoyed this movie very much and I would recommend it to my friends.

I had lofty expectations for this film based on the trailer I saw on another film. The story seemed far fetched and in that it was disappointing. I should have switched it off earlier as I wasted my time watching it.

The real star of this film is Riz Ahmed, a very talented actor (see him in The Reluctant Fundamentalist). This is a sad story of decadence and depravity seen through the clash of cultures.
The music is gorgeous as is the lush scenery. Michael Winterbottom's direction is terrific.

Knowing that director Michael Winterbottom also did _The Trip_, I wanted the entire film to continue following the 4 British guys on their roadtrip through India, instead of veering back on-road to retell the story of _Tess of the D'Urbervilles_. That being said, I enjoyed _Trishna_.

Interesting tidbit: Freida Pinto can't dance! ... which I knew from the end credits of _Slumdog Millionaire_, but I think it works here, as she plays a woman who doesn't express herself well.

Great story of a woman who loved. A bit of a tragic downer though.
