Countess Meliara spends hers on the front lines of a war. She and her brother promised their dying father to free Remalna from the oppressive rule of Greedy Galdran and to preserve the vital Covenant with Remalna's aloof, unhuman Hill People. Courageous, stubborn Meliara, honorable and sharp-tongued, is determined to win or die fighting. Brought to court by a mysterious letter, teenage Countess Meliara finds herself the subject of all sorts of courtly intrigues and attentions, including those of the deposed king's sister and an ardent, secret suitor.

Fantastic Fantasy novel.
I enjoyed the mixture of western and eastern cultures to create something unique for this world.

Fans of Tamora Pierce would love this.

I was on GoodReads trying to find a book I might like so I plugged in my favorite titles and this was suggested. I didn't pick it up but my mom did. She sacrificed precious sleep to finish it then she shoved it in my hands. I read it in one day--also sacrificing sleep to finish it. What a great book! I am now reading the second one. It's at my work desk immitating a siren. I can't wait until break so I can continue reading it.

Guilty pleasure. Read straight through in one evening. First half is better than the second, but worth the read.

Good for YA readers, or moms, like me.

An excellent fantasy fiction. Vocabulary worthy of an adult wit, and story worthy of an adventurers heart! One of my favorite princess-saves-the-kingdom books of all time.
