This film is fascinating. It's a slow-moving, but constantly tense sort of low-key thriller about two documentary filmmakers who infiltrate a cult. Of course, as they delve more deeply into the cult, one of them starts becoming a true believer.

The true genius of the film, though, is entirely in the writing and performance of the cult leader Maggie (played by Brit Marling) - all of her lines are perfectly pitched to maintain ambiguity - does she believe the things she's saying, or is she a scam artist? And if she does believe these things, is she delusional, or is she somehow right?

This is a movie that keeps you guessing right to the very end.

This is a very enjoyable movie that leaves you to figure out what just happened. Weird and wonderful.

This is an earlier, lower budget, collaboration of the team that made The East, Zal Batmanglij, Brit Marling.

In this one Brit Marling plays a woman who says she is from the near future, like, 2050. She and a long haired older assistant male have gathered around her a small cult-like group, complete with a very complicated secret handshake.
A young couple, filmmakers, secretly join the group in order to expose her as a fraud and perhaps dangerous leader of with undisclosed intentions as she builds a loyal following.

Brit Marling is very good in creating the woman from the future and a cult leader that people would follow. Her character is physically beautiful, dressed in white, with long golden hair, and pure skin.

There is considerable suspense in scenes in which the couple could be exposed as fake cultists. There are scenes of seeming unrelated characters, a little girl who never removes her hat, and a spy-like character, these converge in the ending.

Another fine movie in the brilliant and off the beaten path career of Brit Marling. It is similar to The East in that a seeming hostile person is penetrating a insular group.

If you need a movie that ties up all the loose ends, Sound of My Voice is not it.

A slow story about a cult.

Not much of a thriller or suspense story (and definitely not sci-fi which is how it was recommended to me).

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.

This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it is far from being good. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.

Character driven story that lets the viewer decide for themselves. While I'm okay with subjective endings there were plot holes where the roles of certain characters aren't explained at all. Still worth a look.

Intriguing film in many ways. Short, but the characters are well developed and the plot is captivating. The actress who plays the main character is very good, very intense, mysterious, compelling. Definitely worth a viewing.

This film is very interesting. It has you wanting to believe Maggie is real, but it also has logic playing on the opposed side to make you believe she's fake. The ending was enough to give me goose bumps and although it does leave off not letting you know whether or not Maggie is true or not, I personally think it's am amazing film. I suggest people watch this if they are interested in psychological thrillers and don't mind an open ending which you have to come up with your own choice instead of it outright saying that yes, she's from the future or no, she's not.

An interesting look at a cult. This cult is espcially unusual in that it's memebers are not seclued at all times, but rather return to their other lives and back to the cult. The film does demonstrate how even a cult non-believer can become seduced into believing in the cult's master. However, the ending, which leaves open the possibility that this cult is in fact bassed on reality, is rather poor and makes one question what was the real theme of the film.
