"A person is a person no matter how small”. This is Horton’s motto in the movie “Horton Hears a Who”. The movie is about an elephant named Horton who is able to hear very tiny creatures living on a speck. The speck is a town called “Whoville”, in which there are little “Whos”. Horton wants to protect the Whos on the speck but is met with negativity from other animals in the jungle, who refuse to believe that something could live on a speck so tiny. Horton must find a way to protect the Whos of Whoville amidst all the conflict with the animals of Nool. Rating: 3/5

Dr. Seuss DVD's are my new favorite cartoons. He teaches children about animals and nature. It does not have violence or profanity. I highly recommend this to a child. He also has moral stories to assist others to respect each other. He suggests we should be fair and just to each other. We need to share with each other.

I discovered the violence in this video while watching it with my 3yr old and turned it off. I feel that it should have some kind of rating or warning on the cover, on the chance that parents aren't watching it too, and I imagine that many aren't aware of the content as I wasn't. I mentioned it to a librarian at our branch and was told it was too bad it was in there but likely would not be pulled from the shelves.

This looked like a nice kid-friendly video, but turned out very disappointing. In particular, do not watch the cartoon "Horton Hatches the Egg" in which a character takes a gun to his head and shoots himself. Not something to show your child. What were the cartoon makers thinking???
