In season five of Waking the Dead the team is still jolted by the death of DS Mel Silva. Frankie takes her leave and the other unit members must integrate two new members. Forensics scientist Felix Gibson as well as DC Stella Goodman join the unit and are quickly put to the test. There are six two part episodes in season five. The first case involves several deaths related to a string of robberies at Heathrow Airport. In the second episode the unit reopens a case originally investigated by DCI Peter Boyd. Two ex cops were doing detective work when one of them was gunned down. DCI Peter Boyd may have had the wrong man convicted. The third case involves a psychopathic doctor who ends up killing two people who discovered the truth about his identity. The fourth case revisits the first case that Dr. Grace Foley lent her behavior profiling skills. The case dates back 30 years and deals with an especially brutal serial killer. In the fifth case the unit tries to identify yet another serial killer who finds his victims through the local newspaper. Finally, the last cold case dates back to the '80s and the brutal murders of two nuclear plant protesters. In this episode DI Spence Jordon was involved in the original investigation and becomes a suspect once the case is reopened. Throughout season five DCI Peter Boyd is still dealing with his anger issues and they almost jeopardize several of the cold case investigations. As usual all of the episodes are complex and keep one guessing until the end.

I love, love, love this series. I am sad that they eventually cancelled it. I love inspector Boyd and his psychologist profiler lady. The entire cast is dynamic in my opinion. There were some cast changes through the series, Boyd, the psychologist and the black guy - his name escapes me - stayed. Those three are the heart of the show. The stories are fantastic. I love that the episodes are pretty long and usually two parts. It gives you time to really invest in the story and the characters. I originally found this series via Netflix. They had 1-5. Its been a while since I have seen them and have placed holds on the two seasons JOCO has. Ive got the other three in my netflix que. I've had a hankering to see them again. If you like CSI, you will like this series. Its not exactly the same, but the gist is the same.
