Unfortunately the DVDs of this film(s) at EPL are bootlegs and the English subtitle track is abysmal. If you don't speak Hindi I recommend renting the film(s) on iTunes or Vimeo, where they have legal copies, as the subtitles here are confusing and it’s hard to follow as the film is very dense.

This is the watchable but extremely violent sequel to the much buzzed-about Gangs of Wasseypur I. The youngest of Sardar's sons, Faisal the useless hash-smoker, is transformed into the ruthless head of the family who avenges his father's and brothers' murders. He makes an alliance with his even more ruthless stepbrother, only to be betrayed by him in the end. This movie is the latest Hindi version of the perenially alluring organized crime and vendetta film (viz. The Godfather), and the director is clearly conscious of this in his earnest ambition to aestheticize gang violence. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a great actor and carries the film, but there's still something unsatisfying about it. Spectacular violence alone can't make a gangster film. There have to be other memorable things, like unforgettable characters or evocative cinematography, and Gangs of Wassepur I & II don't have these elements.
