An awkward and ridiculous plot and a very unsatisfying murderer make for a fast but dismal mystery.

This wasn't my favorite entry in the Lady Emily series--while I thought the setting of Venice was vividly realized, I struggled to fully engage with the mystery. However, as is frequently the case with books in this series, I thought the ending was pretty strong, and I found the last 1/3 of the book pretty engrossing--I was sincerely surprised to find out who the culprit was. And some late developments made me eager for the next book in the series, too.

The latest instalment of Lady Emily's sleuthing adventures. I liked this more than the rest so far.
