I normally like these kinds of programs, but this one spent so much time in dark shadows with endless dialogue that I just could not get into the spirit of it.

This is the first Season of a 4-season (so far, anyway) crime drama from the BBC. Set in the 18 century East London, after the terror of Jack The Ripper, a small group of police officers in Whitechapel dealt with other crimes that followed and plagued the city. Well acted, and visually arresting. This is high-quality crime drama.

Excellent episodes from the time of the Ripper; great selection of actors who link the individual episodes together.

It took me a few episodes but once you familiarize yourself with the characters Ripper Street is very enjoyable to watch. The actors are quite stylish in their semi Steam Punk attire. Give it a look. It's pretty good.

First thing, Ireland is not part of the UK as a member suggested. Great series, I liked Season 2 a bit more but by far one of the best written shows on TV

Very well-done! Lots of intrigue! Great acting! Due to violence and sexuality, definitely Not for family viewing! I recommend this series!

Love a good Victorian drama! Great stories and characters. Much better than anything on TV at the moment!

I watched the first season on the Space chanel last winter and after the first episode I was hooked, unfortunately I erased the first episode, and have regretted it ever since. I like to re-watch episodes to get supple hints and clues to the backgrounds of the characters. All the way though the series I found myself wondering what it was that had happen in Reed's personal life, regarding his daughter, you don't find out until the last episode, BUT there are clues in the first episode, and through out the series. It is rather bloody, but another excellent British historical detective drama. My only complaint, the streets are far too clean!! This is 19th Century London after all!! I was very surprised to find it in the Library catalogue. Thank you for adding this excellent series. Season two is being shown on the Space Channel right now.

Throughly enjoyed this series. Matthew Macfayden is brilliant as always as Inspector Reid, with his painful memories and uncomfortable home life. So is Game of Thrones alumni Jerome Flynn as his conflicted sergeant (no longer looking much like the Jerome half of the successful and dishy 90s singing duo Robson & Jerome). In fact, the whole core cast is excellent and the stories are absorbing..
