I love Southern novels. This one is no exception. I was captivated from start to finish by the beautiful word pictures, and interesting story line. The characters live on in my heart.

What an excellent read! The characters are alive with pain and perseverance, the word pictures are crisp and creative, and the story unfolds as slowly and steadily as the Mississippi. Set in the poverty of the deep South.
