Catcher Crash Davis is closing in on a dubious record: all-time home run leader for the minor leagues. Trying to continue his career in a very unforgiving sport, Davis finds his contract bought out, and he is sent to the Durham Bulls. Seems the Bulls have a bona fide major league pitching prospect -- Ebby Calvin LaLoosh. The thinking is that with Davis' knowledge of the game he will be able to season LaLoosh and prepare him for "the show." LaLoosh does not know it, but there is another teacher waiting for him. Her name is Annie Savoy and she is the Durham Bulls' biggest fan. Annie is teaching a lot more than just the basics of the game, but it is sport nevertheless. Before the season is over, these three characters swing, strike out, score, and balk.

"A good friend of mine used to say, 'This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.'" One woman chooses one baseball player a year to have a relationship... Read More »

Because of it's very "adult" theme, Bull Durham is definitely NOT for children. However, it's great for adults who want a different type of baseball movie. While most movies focus on the ultimate; winning, this one simply deals with a minor league team and the "rival/friendship" between the pitcher and catcher-both who vow for the affections of Annie. Bull Durham has some classic lines and is absolutely hilarious! If you are tired of the everyday baseball movies, rent Bull Durham!

Watching this again for the first time in years, I now understand why my screenwriting instructor commented on the first act of this film as being one of the best written, and it's true. The dialogue is smart, funny and sad, all at the same time, and sets up the story perfectly. Good flick.

An American classic comedy and homage to baseball that also highlights the talents of Susan Sarandon, Kevin Costner, and Tim Robbins. Costner plays Crash Davis, a minor league catcher toward the end of his career who can't believe he's tasked with mentoring the crass, undisciplined but talented “Nuke” LaLoosh (Robbins). Sarandon stars as the ditzy groupie ---who is actually anything but---who's reconsidering her place in both life and the league. While frequently profane, there's a zany good sense of humor (poetry as foreplay; a mysterious rain-out; a lesson in wearing garters) and the deeper recognition that real relationships take work, making this a solid story.

Good baseball movie except for the bad language & sexual context. Tim Robbins performance was OK.

Classic 80's movie with that 80's feel. Incredible soundtrack. One of the most progressive baseball movies I know of. I am glad to have found this on the shelves.

Average baseball movie about a woman who is attracted to two ball players and the one who she teaches to play ball and one who she'd rather sleep with. Could have been better. That's why I'm only giving it two stars.

Kevin Costner was never better in this wonderful baseball movie, with great performances by Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins as well. A classic.

Crash Davis: 'Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.'
