John McClane is off-duty on Christmas Eve in the nation's capital when a team of terrorists, in town to rescue a drug lord from justice, has taken over a major international airport, holding thousands of travelers hostage. Amidst a blinding blizzard, McClane must race against time to defeat the terrorists and their murderous leader while also contending with an inept airport police chief, the stubborn head of the Army's anti-terrorist squad, and the knowledge that his wife is trapped in a plane desperately low on fuel, circling overhead.

Not a bad sequel! The first Die Hard is damn near perfection, it's hard to recreate again. But I thought Die Hard 2, was decent, guns and McClane are a good combo! Decent action flick to watch.

How hard can you die? 1990's "Die Hard 2" follows the sequel formula of bigger, louder, explosions. The original is an almost perfectly constructed action movie, while this is kind of a mess. It swaps out a business tower for an airport and blows up airplanes instead of helicopters. What you realize is how important Alan Rickman's sardonic, European villain was to the first film and the bad guys here are just generic and forgettable. Also, this one is set at Christmas too! Followed by 3 sequels.

If there's one thing that the original 'Die Hard' wasn't, well, it wasn't some generic action movie. Alan Rickman played a fantastic, sneering villain who drove a thrilling plot with tense, finely-done scenes. Unfortunately, 'Die Hard II' is a kind of standard, here-we-go-again film that recycles the first movie's plot only without the same charm. The new villains, a group of ex-military radicals propping up a foreign ex-dictator, are one-note, generic characters to the point of being outright boring at times.

Bruce Willis' rambunctious attitude and natural charisma as John McClane still shine through. Yet he has a hard time having to basically carry the whole movie on that, with the side characters being either fundamentally uninteresting (such as the main bad guys) or simply not given enough to do (such as McClane's family). The film remains worth seeing in the end since there are genuinely some fun, energetic moments. Yet 'Die Hard II' ultimately manages to be just average when it could've been fantastic.

Die Hard festing here. One is great, primarily because of the cat and mouse interaction between hero and villain. The humor and sarcasm really drove the film. There's nothing like that here with Die Harder. No bond or interactions between characters - they're just afterthoughts to compliment meaningless actions or explosions. For reference, the films in order of release are: Die Hard, Die Harder, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Live Free or Die Hard, A Good Day to Die Hard.
