I was prepared to like this book, because I was so taken with Dean King's Skeletons on the Zahara. But this one disappoints. Too much killing by the Communist party bigwigs, too much mistrust, too much using each other and the people they're supposedly representing. Murders probably number in the millions. I ended with a much lower opinion of Mao and all the rest than I'd already had, and that wasn't high.
