Playful and dramatic styles in this alt indie rock band

Pure Heroine is the first and most successful album from Lorde, another talented artist from New Zealand.

The interplay between angst and beauty tie this album together. Lester's near obsession with the teenage mind links up well with this album.

Cool to think that, at more or less the age that I am writing this review right now, Lorde was writing Pure Heroine: the greatest pop album of the 2010s, New Zealand’s absolute cultural peak, and an instant classic which perfectly captures the spirit of the modern teen. An electropop masterpiece unsullied by the clumsy production stylings of one “Jack Antonoff”, Pure Heroine is minimal and spacious, allowing Lorde to demonstrate her strength as a lyricist and a singer. Highlights like “Ribs” and “Buzzcut Season” are personal, experimental, and impactful, while tracks like “Tennis Court” and “Royals” are catchy and, to borrow a phrase from a man greater than I, “danceable”. Very few weak points here, although I found “Glory and Gore” to be slightly lacking compared to the rest of the project. Strongly recommend this to anybody who enjoys music; 5/5, very nice.

Solid debut album!

Good album from a young artist. I like Glory and Gore and Buzzcut season. She was great singing Life on Mars at the British awards Tribute to Bowie. Gaga's Tribute was awful..She is going to go far.

I would gear this album more towards teens and early 20's. She has a refreshing style from the pop scene, but her lyrics are written from a teen's point of view.

I have Lorde's two top tunes "Royals" from "Now, Vol. 49" and "Team" from "Now, Vol.50." Decided to borrow this CD and like "Buzzcut Season" and "Tennis Court" almost as much but not to say the rest are mediocre. Enjoy.

Great songs

The music CDs were OK and enjoyable. I even recorded a track or two for my iPhone.
I was happy to see that the library had them.

Wow. So this is what the fuss is all about.

An artist who, like Adele not so long ago, I feel more than lives up to the hype surrounding her, and a thoroughly enjoyable record.

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address, in the torn up town
No post code envy
But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair
And we'll never be royals
It don't run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
