The everyday complications of his village general practice are very different from the challenges Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly faced nearly thirty years earlier when, fresh out of medical school, he accepted a post at the Aungier Street Dispensary tending to the impoverished denizens of Dublin's tenement slums. Even as he tries to make a difference, Fingal's tireless devotion to his patients may cost him his own true love.

Although I found it a challenge to jump back and forth between time periods, I eventually got the hang of it. I enjoyed much of the story and skipped parts that I found to be a little tedious.
Great sense of humour which I enjoyed. Found the medical stuff well written and illuminating. I've enjoyed and look forward to enjoying more of the writer's novels.
