This "Hits" CD contains fifteen tracks in all which were written and recorded by Canadian-born singer/songwriter, Joni Mitchell (along with accompanying musicians) primarily in the early years of her music career from 1967-1976.
Joni Mitchell is a multi talented musician and artist. "Hits"
focuses on her first recording from the late 1960's to early 1970's. Her first record had "Both Sides Now" which so many artists recorded immediately after they heard it. Everyone knew this was someone special, which "Hits" more than amply proves. Not only was she an Rock FM favorite, she could easily move with ease into a jazz artist. Her album dedicated to Charles Mingus shows her interest in jazz. The KCLS web page does not list the tunes, but to my ears all the important tunes are there. Thanks Joni for so much wonderful music!
When it comes to the very beginnings of Canadian Pop/Folk music in the 1960s, you can be sure that Joni Mitchell (birthname Roberta Joan Anderson) was right there forging away, meticulously fine-tuning her very distinctive sound.
Born in Fort MacLeod, Alberta (1943), Joni quickly morphed into a talented singer/songwriter. Throughout the late 1960s and the 1970s her songs helped to put good, old Canada on the pop-music map (though she did, of course, defect over to the USA).
Throughout her long, illustrious career Joni has been an 8-time Grammy Award winner. And her songs have been covered by such notable performers as Judy Collins, Janet Jackson, George Michael and Prince.
This "Hits" CD contains 15 tunes (chiefly from the years between 1967-1974) such as - Help Me, Big Yellow Taxi, Carey, California, and Woodstock, to name but a few.
