It kept one's interest and had an unusual plot with lots of unanswered questions that kept the reader's interest. Would not want to read more by this author as it is not my type of story genre.

This gothic tale is quite dark and grisly in parts. A bit too dark for my tastes, but the author does incorporate some intriguing plot twists and I am so very glad I persevered to the end.

Mabel is not likable at first glance, but as you get to know her and see her determination to pursue justice in the face of the mighty Winslow clan, you can't help but admire her. The Epilogue is worth the price of admission.

My rating is actually between a 3 and 4 -- just as it has been averaging on Goodreads. I would recommend this book to fans of "Gone Girl" and other books by Gillian Flynn. It also was quite similar to "Arrowood" by Laura McHugh. If you liked both of those books, then this one is right up your alley.

A dark family drama with some crime/mystery elements. The twisty characters held my attention all the way through.

Who wouldn't want to explore the summer home of a rich, New England family (and one with some dark secrets!)? I got sucked in each time I picked it up. The conclusion was a bit too abrupt given how long it took to get there, and I found some of the characters to be annoying the more time I spent with them. All-in-all, it wasn't a bad read. I'll check out the author's future books.

This book had a lot of potential. It was suspenseful, interesting, and kept you wanting to turn the page. I thought the characters were well developed. I really liked Mabel and I wanted to like Genevra. The plot turned a little twisted, though, and I found it very distasteful and unbelievable. I did finish it, to see what would happen, but I was disappointed in the resolution of the plot.

I started off liking this book..some good writing...a promise of good plot. But the characters degenerated into caricatures, almost cartoon-like. The thing about good writing and story telling is to stay within credible boundaries ..swerve if you will occasionally ...but stay on the road...and don't mistake the fields for pavement. Just such a silly a really ,really bad episode of Law and Order.Only that is mercifully, shorter.
There is so much good story-telling out there today, this is not among them.
