If you love historical fiction because it is a way to bring real characters of the past to life this is the book for you. Longshore breaths life back into these obscure historical characters who are forgotten by most historical fiction authors.

I loved the book because it had a little of everything, but at the same time it showed a female character who rely on a strong male counterpart. At the same time this book left me a little hopeless at the end, which is why I give it four stars and not five.

If you are expecting a book like Philippa Gregory's books then I can only half heartily recommend this book. It deals with the same time period that Philippa Gregory is inclined to write about, but at the same time Longshore chooses to develop her characters very differently than Gregory.

This book has everything.
Drama, true and steamy romance, historical accuracy.

I could not put this book down, I ate it with my eyes in just under a day.

Standing O to Katherine Longshore on this gem.
